Sign Bar is Bringing the Old Austin Back

Indulge in nostalgic reverie and transport yourself to the cherished eras of Austin's past at this newly opened bar. Sign Bar, debuting tonight, serves as a delightful homage to the iconic local businesses that defined the city's history, whether you long for the cosmic cowboy era of the 1970s or the laid-back vibe of the '90s.

Curated by industry veterans Matt Luckie and Max Moreland, Sign Bar boasts a remarkable collection of over 75 indoor and outdoor signs, salvaged from beloved establishments such as Dart Bowl, Catfish Parlor, Spider House, and Genie Car Wash. Housed in a former automobile service station, the bar exudes an authentic atmosphere that pays homage to Austin's vibrant past.

Stepping onto the expansive patio, guests are greeted by interactive art exhibits created by local artists. Among the highlights are Flatfork Studios' tribute to the legendary Poodle Dog Lounge and Corrine Loperfido's I Luv Video Lounge. Additionally, visitors can explore an on-site maze adorned with ever-changing lights and decorations that reflect the spirit of each holiday season.

Matt Luckie expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Through collaboration with local artists, signmakers, interior designers, and fabricators, we have crafted a concept that is not only unique to Austin and Texas but to the entire country." As Sign Bar comes to life, guests are invited to relish in the nostalgia and reminisce about Austin's most iconic locations.
